"We're Here for You"

Grace Church School

"Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up."

                                                                     Deuteronomy 11:18-19 NIV

Welcome!

We are blessed to have a growing Church  School and group of parent-teachers teaching our sons and daughters to walk in God's path. As parents, we take seriously our children's questions. As teachers, we see Church School as our partner in answering their deepest questions. We ourselves learn. By sharing with our children Christ's good news, our own faith is deepened.

Our Curriculum, Classroom, and Teachers.

We use Bible-in-Life, the  Episcopal/Anglican edition. This curriculum teaches biblical Anglicanism with a Great Commission emphasis. As befits a traditional church dating from the 1800s, we are a one-room school. The entire group of children meets with one teacher in the Parish Hall. Our students range from elementary to high school. Given this age spread, we use the middle school version of Bible-In-Life. This way, we can tailor it depending on who is in attendance that day.

Our Format.

Church School meets on a three-week on/one-week off rotation.  On Church School days, the teacher and students sit in the front pew at the beginning of the worship service and join in singing the first hymn. We then depart into the Parish Hall. We settle down quickly to about 45 minutes of religious instruction. During the Peace, a parishioner comes into the hall to signal the end of Church School, and we rejoin the congregation for the Lord’s Supper.

Are you thinking about attending Grace?

I welcome you to worship with us. Let your kids give Church School a try once - there's no need to sign up ahead of time and no tuition. We think they'll enjoy being with the other children, working on understanding God's word. Church School is never about handing the children a worksheet, telling them to work silently, and collecting papers 45 minutes later. We know that you can find joy in committing your life to Christ. If you also find joy in the unpredictable exchange of thought and belief with children, then you'll find it here in Church  School.

Yours in Christ,

Harlan Sexton

Vestrywoman and Church School Teacher
